Chris Carpenter has an elbow problem:

But of bigger significance is the report that staff ace Chris Carpenter will miss at least his next start because of some right elbow inflammation.

Carpenter, who complained of stiffness and soreness in the elbow after his start on Sunday night, was examined by Dr. George Paletta after laboring through six innings in a 6-1 loss to the New York Mets.

Carpenter's really good, and seems like a classy guy, etc, etc, but I'm not above admitting feeling some schadenfreude about this, as a long absence by Carpenter would certainly help the Brewers' chances in the Central.
