Let's Start a Stupid Little Fight!

Battlekow just texted me that he was listening to the radio and that BrewerFan.net was credited with coining the nickname "Menchkins."  Just to get one thing clear: I don't care very much (probably not at all) about this, as getting mentions on local sports radio is hardly my number one goal in life.

But, as in most things, it is important to get it right.  While I'm not at all sure that I was the first person on earth to dream up the nickname (it's pretty obvious to just stick a couple names together), I did come up with it myself.  I believe I first used it in print in my Brewers preview at Beyond the Boxscore, which I published way back on February 8th.  It appears that I first used it on this site on February 24th.

I don't think that BF can make the same claim.  If you search the Major Leagues forum (link here), the first appearance of "Menchkins" was on April 10th, in this thread (which, to give credit where it's due, is pretty funny).  There's no site-wide search at BF, so I can't be sure, but it seems that if the term showed up at BF, it would've appeared in the Major Leagues forum, too.

Further, a cursory google search doesn't turn anything up earlier than February.  The vast majority of the results are from the last few weeks; some even explicitly credit me.  There's also the strange insinuation that Geoff and Kevin are Jewish children in California.

Like I say: this isn't a big deal to me.  I don't expect a link every time you use the word (or ever, or even when you use Capequino, which I also coined).  Hell, I'm even glad for the folks at BF.net that they get as much attention as they do.  But...if you're going to give credit, get it right.
