It's nice to know that no matter what happens today, we're going to be in first place when we come home to face the Cardinals on Tuesday.
But then there's how we got here! After being outscored 36-10 in a three-game sweep in Colorado, things were not looking good for the Cream City Crushers when we came to Houston. Two late-inning, come-from-behind victories later (including a pair of 2-out, 9th inning home runs last night), and things aren't looking so bad. (It helps when the Cubs politely refuse to take the lead in the division, losing 7 out of 10 while we get our acts together.) Now what we need is a nice and easy win where we jump out to an early lead and keep the Stros in check. Would that be too much to ask?
C. Vargas (9-4, 4.97) vs. W. Williams (6-12, 5.21)
After getting the best of Wandy yesterday, it stands to reason we'll do OK against Woody today. (It's a good thing we'll be out of town before the Astros inevitable trade with Atlanta comes to fruition.) Granted, Claudio Vargas gave up 6 runs in 7 innings last game, but he does have a history of pitching well against Woody Williams in Houston. Let's hope for a repeat!
