In the beginning of the year, everything was clicking. Go back and read some game threads, some game recaps, it was amazing. Better than we expected, yet somehow explicable, with guys like Fielder and Hardy and Turnbow and Cordero turning in big performances every night.
I don't know whether August is going to feel like that, but tonight's game sure did. The highlights, of course, were Fielder's two-run shot in the 8th and Hart's game-saving catch in the top of the 9th, but it's worth pointing out how perfect the bullpen was. Shouse stranded a runner on second with none out in the sixth, and Linebrink, Turnbow, and Cordero were nearly perfect. In fact, they basically were perfect, except for the fact that Hart had to steal a baseball from the right field picnic area.
It's just one game, but you gotta feel good about a team that can win a Hamels-Bush matchup. Even better that most of the win was against Hamels himself, despite some dominance that harkened back to the near no-no earlier in the season. This one even brought out the inner fanboy in Brian Anderson, who said, in effect, it doesn't get any better than this.
