Who would have guessed that Max Scherzer and Jeff Suppan would meet this far into the season and Scherzer would be the one looking for his first win?
At 7:05 tonight, Scherzer takes the mound for the Diamondbacks in game one of a four game series. After starting the season on the DL, Scherzer is making his fourth start tonight and is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA. He posted a 3.05 ERA in 16 appearances in 2008, but went 0-4 in that season as well, so he's still looking for his first major league win. Scherzer faced the Brewers one time in relief in 2008, and allowed three runs in one inning.
For the Brewers, Jeff Suppan returns to the mound. Suppan is a former Diamondback: In 1998 he was drafted from the Red Sox in the expansion draft, and later waived after going 1-7 with a 6.68 ERA in 66 innings. For the Brewers this season, he's 1-2 with a 7.32 ERA, and has gone two whole starts without taking a loss. Chris Snyder, Chris Young and Conor Jackson all have career OPS' over 1.000 against him.
Thursday's Game Thread is now open.
