Today's game might be the best pitching matchup this series has to offer, as Matt Cain takes on Yovani Gallardo.

Follow the jump for today's pitching matchup and conversation on today's game!

Matt Cain (12-4, 2.50) might be one of the best pitchers that doesn't get consistently mentioned in conversations about great pitchers. In fact, he's the fourth Cy Young candidate/former Cy Young Award winner the Brewers have faced in five days (Carpenter, Smoltz, Zito and now Cain). Cain leads the NL with four complete games, and is third in ERA and fifth in innings pitched. He's 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts against the Brewers in 2009. He hasn't been getting much run support in recent weeks ever, going 0-2 in his last seven starts despite posting a 3.10 ERA.

Yovani Gallardo (12-10, 3.56) knows what it's like to not get run support. The Brewers have scored four or fewer runs in 16 of his 27 starts this season, and have been shut out four times. He's struggled with efficiency lately, averaging just over 5.2 innings per appearance over his last five starts while throwing 108.6 pitches. With that said, Gallardo is 2-0 against the Giants in two starts this season with a 1.88 ERA.
