Chris Carpenter (15-3, 2.28) beat the Brewers last week, and has beaten more or less everyone he's faced recently, going 10-0 in his last 12 starts. His 2.28 ERA leads the NL, and at the end of the season he'll likely be one of the leading candidates for the Cy Young Award.
Dave Bush (3-6, 6.47), meanwhile, won't win any awards based on this season (except a Razzie). He was medically cleared to pitch again today, but is 0-5 with an 11.72 ERA in the four starts before and two starts since going on the DL with microtearing in his triceps. Since May 14, even before the injury, opponents are hitting just .330/.414/.609 off him. The Cardinals did significant damage against Bush last time out, scoring eight runs on eleven hits in just 3.1 innings of work.
