Winter League Update for 1/18/2010

In the Dominican Republic: Friday, Carlos Gomez went 2-for-5 and scored a run in Escogido's 10-1 win over Cibao. On Saturday, he went 0-for-4 in their 4-3 win over Este.

With the wins, Escogido finished the round robin portion of the DWL playoffs in second place, and will face off against Cibao in the championship series.

In Mexico: On Friday, Luis Cruz went 1-for-3 with a walk and scored a run, but Hermosillo scored a run in the seventh, another in the eighth and two in the ninth to beat Culiacan 5-4.

Then, Cruz went 0-for-3 on Saturday as Hermosillo completed the sweep, 3-1.

With the 4-0 series victory, Hermosillo advances to the Championship series and Culiacan is eliminated (I'm pretty sure this time.)

Also, new Brewer pitcher Chris Waters also spent part of his winter with Culiacan. He made seven starts, going 3-1 with a 3.98 ERA, striking out 28 and walking 18 in 40.2 innings.
