With (now) two games left in the season, the Brewers and Reds decided to give us a little extra tonight, playing extra innings after finishing the first nine tied 3-3.
Mark Rogers had a nice little final start of the season as he looks to build momentum toward a potential starting role on the Brewers in 2011. He went five innings today (Milwaukee limited his pitch count) and gave up two runs on just two hits while striking out six and walking one.
The Brewers and Reds combined to use 15 pitchers today, with the Brewers having Jeffress (one run given up), Coffey (one walk), Loe (two perfect innings), McClendon (one perfect inning) and Axford (one hit, one walk) following Rogers today.
The Brewers totaled six hits, with nobody having any standout offensive performances. Milwaukee was somewhat lucky on the winning run as Brandon Phillips, regarded as a very good defensive second baseman, fumbled a Casey McGehee grounder up the middle that would have been an inning-ending double play. Instead, Corey Hart scored from third.
The Brewers and Reds have day games tomorrow and Sunday to finish up the regular season.
