If you've been around the site for a while you may remember this post from April, where I asked readers to make some predictions for the 2010 season. 168 of you submitted an entry, and it's time now to reveal the winners.
The entry form asked 45 questions (plus two tiebreakers). Two of the questions ended up as ties and were removed. Out of the remaining 43, three users got 28 correct:
First place: Cheeseandcorn, who was one point away on the tiebreaker.
Second place: Wrongallalong, who missed the tiebreaker by six points.
Third place: Steve Schlact, who missed the tiebreaker by 12 points.
Our winners will split a prize pool featuring the following:
- A copy of Lee Panas' Beyond Batting Average.
- A copy of Peter Handrinos' The Funniest Baseball Book Ever.
- A Brew Crew Ball t-shirt.
All told, 22 users were within three points of first place, so the race came right down to the wire. If you're wondering where you finished, the full standings are here. Don't feel bad if you didn't do so well: I took dead last in my own contest last year. (Then I beat most of you this year, but that's neither here nor there.)
There's a full breakdown of the questions and results after the jump, if you're interested in that sort of thing.
At any rate, congratulations to our winners, and thanks again to Lee Panas and Peter Handrinos for giving me copies of their book to give away!
As promised, here's a look at the results. For each question, voters were asked to predict which number would be greater. The number in bold is the correct answer, and the fifth column shows what percentage of voters got it right.
