After an exciting, yet concerning end to yesterday's game, the Brewers will head out on their first road trip of the season. It's opening day at Wrigley Field today and clearly, this game is a must-win.
Lineups, pitching matchups, and conversation after the jump!
Doug Davis (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will be on the bump today for the Brewers, hoping to bounce back from an ugly first start last Wednesday against the Rockies. He pitched only four innings, allowing four runs, three of which were in the first inning. He does, however, own the Cubs. Over 16 starts against the baby bears, Davis is 9-6 with a 3.20 ERA, including 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA at Wrigley Field. Derrek Lee is hitting only .174 against Davis (23 ABs), but has two home runs off him. Look out for Marlon Byrd who is hitting .333 (12 ABs) and Xavier Nady hitting .316 (19 ABs) against DD.
He'll be taking on Ryan Dempster (0-0, 1.50 ERA). Dempster was sharp in his first outing of the season, allowing only one run over six innings and striking out nine Braves. Last year he was 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA against the Brewers. Hopefully we won't throw at Ryan Braun's head today, but I'm not going to open up that can or worms. Rickie Weeks, hitting .313 (16 ABs) and Prince Fielder, hitting .292 with two homers (24 ABs), highlight the Brewers offense against Dempster. However Ryan Braun (.217, 23 ABs) and Corey Hart (.087, 23 ABs) have not fared well.
