Today's game against the Cubs, verified the old baseball adage "Doug Davis can lose games pitching poorly, or pitching well". Davis pitched pretty well against the Cubs, using 108 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks.

His counterpart Ted Lilly, was just a bit better, using 78 pitches to get through 6 shutout innings. The Brewers only run came off of Cubs garbage-inning specialist Carlos Zambrano in the 8th inning, when Corey Hart singled home Ryan Braun.

Brewers LHer Chris Narveson extinguished any hope of a Brewer comeback, when he gave up 3 runs in the 8th inning. Jeff Suppan smiled.

Cubs closers Sean Marshall and Carlos Marmol combined to strike out the side in the 9th to secure the win for the Cubs.

I miss the Pirates. sigh.....
