Well, that was painful. On a night when the starter deserved the win more than any other time this year, our closer couldn't hold the lead.
Randy Wolf battled all night, with runners on in almost every inning. Despite all the baserunners, Wolf was fairly efficient, and was able to pithch eight full innings, the first Brewer to do so this season. Overall, he struck out four and walked one.
The Brewer offense couldn't get much going against Jeff Karstens, playing from behind most of the game. Craig Counsell doubled in Randy Wolf in the third inning, and that was it for a while. George Kottaras then hit a leadoff homer in the seventh to tie the game at two. Prince Fielder hit what looked like the go-ahead homer in the eighth, making all of us very happy.
But then Trevor Hoffman came in and gave up a solo homer to Ronny Cedeno. Then he gave up a grand slam to Ryan Doumit. The 22 game streak of home domination is over.
