Hey, back to back wins!
The Brewers struck early tonight and held on nicely. The first four batters to face Chad Billingsley tonight all reached base. Four runs scored in the inning on a Prince Fielder single, a passed ball and an Alcides Escobar triple. Doug Davis, Carlos Villanueva and Todd Coffey combined to make those runs hold up for seven innings before the Brewers came through with five more runs in the eighth and two in the ninth, putting the game away.
Doug Davis pitched well enough to win tonight, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings, striking out four. He allowed two runs in the first but held the Dodgers scoreless until the sixth, when he was responsible for the third run.
At the plate, the Brewers had 13 hits and drew seven walks. Prince Fielder was on base four times, going 2-for-3 with two singles and a pair of walks, as was Rickie Weeks, who went 3-for-4 with a walk. George Kottaras also had a good night, going 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.
In a scary moment in the eighth, Carlos Gomez appeared to injure his wrist sliding back into second base while eluding the tag on a rundown. He remained in the game defensively but was pinch hit for in the ninth. He'll likely be reevaluated tomorrow.
Don't readjust your sleep cycle just yet - the Brewers and Dodgers play a getaway day night game tomorrow at 9:10.
