Dave Bush (5.06 ERA, 5.56 FIP) hasn't been awful lately, I guess, posting a 3.63 ERA in his last four appearances (one relief outing, three starts). He allowed four runs on six hits and three walks in six innings against the Cubs last time out, striking out five.
As you've likely seen me say before, his velocity is down this season, and all five of his pitches are below average. Two Angels have seen him at least ten times:
Player | PA | AVG | OBP | SLG | OPS |
Hideki Matsui | 12 | .273 | .333 | .273 | .606 |
Torii Hunter | 11 | .091 | .091 | .364 | .455 |
Ervin Santana (3.52 ERA, 4.29 FIP) is having a pretty good bounce back season after a rough 2009 (5.03 ERA). He got roughed up last time out, allowing five runs (four earned) in five innings against the A's, but was very good before that, winning five straight starts and posting a 1.80 ERA in 35 innings.
Santana throws in the low 90's (92.6 average fastball), and relies heavily on his slider (thrown 38.2% of the time). The slider is very good, worth 1.20 runs per 100. Carlos Gomez is the only Brewer who's faced him ten times, and he's hitting .182/.182/.273 in 11 PAs.
Rickie Weeks is tonight's DH, and Jim Edmonds is making his first ever start in Anaheim as a visitor (via Adam McCalvy):
And in the bullpen:
