Avoid the sweep? Check. Head home after a .500 roadie? Check. Fly the MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner, boys.
It seems that the cure for Randy Wolf's ails is to pitch on the West Coast. Or in the Mountain time zone. Whatever -- five days after going seven strong against the Halos, Wolf was dynamite against the Rockies, pitching seven innings and ceding only a Brad Hawpe solo homer in the second inning while working around four walks and three hits.
Trevor Hoffman pitched a clean eighth inning (and lowered his ERA to an even 9.00), and the bats continued where they left off against Manny Corpas yesterday, going double - sac bunt (with both runners safe) - walk - double - double - double. When all was said and done, the Brewers plated five against Corpas, who saw his ERA balloon from 3.03 to 4.19.
The hero on offense was Corey Hart, who was 2-5 with an RBI single in the third and a two-RBI double in the ninth. Prince Fielder drove in Hart with a ninth-inning double of his own. Rickie Weeks plated a couple with a two-bagger in the ninth as well, and missed a grand slam by about a foot.
It's an off day tomorrow, and then the family-friendly Twins roll into town for a three-game series at Miller Park.
