The Brewers escaped Pittsburgh tonight with a split series. I say "escaped" because, despite a 6-inning scoreless performance by Gallardo, Todd Coffey proceeded to almost entirely undo the lead. The Brewers and Pirates appear to be continuing their home run/hit by pitch wars from the 2009 season, and Coffey's salvo in it didn't help as it led to runs.

The offense was still offensive. Fielder and Weeks did their part, but once again the few baserunners were largely wasted.

On happier pitching notes, Chris Capuano was effective in relieving Todd Coffey and John Axford picked up his 4th multi-inning save of the season. If you look at the Fangraphs link, you can tell where Capuano and the Ax took over the show.
