So much for the theory that Mike McClendon was a lucky charm.
Through seven innings, the Brewers had a 4-1 lead and things looked pretty good. They went downhill in a hurry after that, though. Yovani Gallardo allowed the first two batters he faced in the eighth inning to reach and Kameron Loe, pitching for the third straight day, the fourth time in five days and the seventh in nine, allowed a three run home run to Troy Tulowitzki that sealed the Brewers' fate.
Gallardo was charged with four runs on seven hits and three walks over seven innings, snapping a 15 game streak where Brewer starters had failed to complete seven. No Brewer has pitched eight innings in a game since Chris Narveson did it on June 27.
Casey McGehee grounded out to short in the first inning, ending his franchise record hitting streak at nine consecutive ABs.
Six of the Brewers' eight hits went for doubles. They've only hit six doubles in a game twice this season: They won the other game 20-0.
