Another day, another bad start for Yovani Gallardo. The Brewers ace hasn't been the same since returning from the DL and his struggles continued tonight. He allowed 2 runs in the first inning, but settled down to pitch a scoreless second and third inning. But things went down from there. He allowed two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. Despite this, Macha sent him out for the sixth inning. But he couldn't even record an out. Manny Parra came in and allowed a double and two of Yovani's baserunners to score. Gallardo's line for tonight: 5+ IP, 8 ER.

It might just be my perception, but the Brewers seemed to be very unlucky on the offensive side of things tonight. Lots of hard hit balls that turned into outs, lots of fly balls caught on the warning track, and a few great defensive plays by the Reds combined to hold the Brewers to only 4 runs on 11 hits. Every starter except Jonathan Lucroy had a hit tonight (including Gallardo, who had 2 hits) and they were able to chase Reds starter Aaron Harang after only 4+ innings. Two of the Brewers runs were unearned, thanks to an error by Jonny Gomes.

If you tuned out early, you missed the impressive debut of Aroldis Chapman. Fastest pitch: 103.

On the bright side, the Cardinals also lost.
