Ryan Dempster (3.92 ERA, 4.34 FIP) enters today's game as the Cubs' 2010 leader in innings pitched (144.2) and strikeouts (139), but also in walks (59). He's having a tough time lately, allowing 12 runs in 16 innings over his last three starts (6.75 ERA) while twice failing to last beyond five innings. Last time out against the Rockies he allowed five runs on seven hits in just four innings.

Dempster throws three pitches: A low 90's fastball, a slider (which he uses a lot, 33.2% of all pitches) and a splitter. The slider and splitter have both been above average this season. He has already started against the Brewers three times this season, and is 2-0 with a 4.24 ERA in those games. Eight Brewers have faced him ten times or more:

Player PA AVG OBP SLG OPS
Prince Fielder 41 .300 .415 .633 1.048
Ryan Braun 38 .182 .289 .424 .714
Jim Edmonds 36 .267 .389 .533 .922
Rickie Weeks 33 .360 .485 .400 .885
Corey Hart 32 .149 .281 .370 .652
Craig Counsell 31 .269 .387 .423 .810
Casey McGehee 16 .333 .375 .467 .842
Randy Wolf 13 .364 .364 .364 .727

Manny Parra (5.42 ERA, 4.63 FIP) enters today's contest at 3-8 and is going to have a lot of work to do to win ten games for the third straight season. Over his last six starts, Parra has pitched six innings just one time and posted a 8.07 ERA, allowing 62 baserunners in 32.1 innings. On the plus side, he's thrown 88 and 89 pitches in his last two starts, so he should be well rested.

Parra has only faced the Cubs once this season, pitching two hitless innings in relief on April 23. No current Cubs have faced Parra at least ten times, but the Cubs that have faced him are hitting a combined .257/.381/.400 in 43 PAs.

Via Jordan Schelling, here's today's lineup:

Rickie Weeks 2B
Corey Hart RF
Ryan Braun LF
Prince Fielder 1B
Casey McGehee 3B
Jim Edmonds CF
Jonathan Lucroy C
Craig Counsell SS
Manny Parra P

And in the bullpen:

John Axford pitched 1 inning (16 pitches) yesterday, and also pitched on Monday.
Kameron Loe pitched 1.1 innings (18 pitches) yesterday.
Todd Coffey pitched .2 innings (9 pitches) yesterday.
Zach Braddock pitched .1 innings (7 pitches) yesterday.
LaTroy Hawkins pitched 1 inning (20 pitches) Monday.
Trevor Hoffman pitched 1 inning (10 pitches) Monday.

Chris Capuano and David Riske haven't pitched since Saturday.
