It's time for our annual refresh of the Community Prospect Rankings, and it's much needed: Eight of the seventeen players from last year's list are either no longer eligible or no longer with the organization. Here's how this year's rankings are going to work:
- A new poll will open each morning (it's the first thing I do when I get up, typically before 7 am on weekdays), and will remain open until the next morning.
- For the first five spots on the list we'll choose from a field of five candidates each day. After the fifth spot, I'll likely open up the ballot to ten.
- We'll rank seventeen players. That's the number we've settled on each of the last two years, so I'll stick with it.
- We're not ranking players with "significant" major league experience. The other rankings I used to form the pre-rankings all seemed to have different opinions on what to do with Mat Gamel, Zach Braddock, Lorenzo Cain, Mike McClendon and Brandon Kintzler. Leaving them in would have skewed the system, so I'm taking them all out. I'm leaving Mark Rogers in, though - apparently his September cup of coffee wasn't enough for anyone to leave him off their list.
- As always, these rules are more like "guidelines" and I reserve the right to alter them if the need arises.
