Arizona Fall League notes, 2011-10-12

Peoria's 3-2 win over Phoenix featured much better performances from Tyler Thornburg and Santo Manzanillo than their last time out.

Tomorrow, I'll start putting the Caribbean winter league highlights into here. The Venezuelan league starts today; at time of writing only a few teams have their rosters up, but they're interesting ones. Gian Rizzo, an interesting pitcher who was with the Brewers' DSL team this summer, is on the roster of las Aguilas de Zulia; Michael Fiers and Caleb Gindl are with los Leones del Caracas. More are definitely to come (after all, Francisco Rodriguez was supposed to be down there now; thankfully, he's not.) The Mexican winter league started yesterday. I'm unsure if the Brewers have had any players there since Casey McGehee was suspended for leaving his team a few years back. (Chris Narveson was in the league the same year; he hasn't been back, either.) The Dominican league starts Friday. Rosters haven't been released yet (or, more likely, I haven't dug around on Spanish-language websites enough to find them.) Carlos Gomez had plans to play there but like K-Rod he's occupied with something else right now.
