On this day in 1962, Glenn Erick Braggs was born in San Bernardino, California. After three years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the Brewers selected him with their second pick (54th overall) in the 1983 draft.
Braggs made his Brewer debut three seasons later, appearing in 58 games in 1986, and was a full time outfielder for the Crew for much of the next four seasons. He appeared in nearly 400 games as a corner outfielder for the Brewers and was a DH in 46 more over five seasons in Milwaukee before being traded to the Reds midseason in 1990 for pitchers Ron Robinson and Bob Sebra.
Apparently the Brewers spent plenty of time in the 80's and early 90's scouting in Hawaii. There have only been ten players from the University of Hawaii at Manoa to make the major leagues, but four of them were Brewers:
Player | Seasons |
Glenn Braggs | 1986-90 |
Chuck Crim | 1987-91 |
Joey Meyer | 1988-89 |
Scott Karl | 1995-1999 |
Braggs turns 49 today. With help from Brewerfan.net and the B-Ref Play Index, we'd also like to wish a happy birthday today to:
- Nashville Sound Edwin Maysonet, who turns 30.
- 1977 Brewer Rich Folkers, who turns 65.
