Around the Playoffs: Ahhctober 9 Edition

News 'n Notes:

The Rangers made a small roster move prior to their game yesterday, dropping third catcher and lucky husband Matt Treanor and adding pitcher Yoshinori Tateyama.

Tigers' Left Fielder Delmon Young will miss the ALCS due to a strained oblique muscle.  Young had hit .268/.302/.393 during the regular season and .316/.381/.789 in the ALDS.

Also due to a oblique strain, the Cardinals' Skip Schumaker is likely to miss the NLCS series.  Schumaker had a .283/.333/.351 line during the season and a 1.400 OPS against the Phillies in the NLDS.

Yesterday's Game:

Texas won the first game of the ALDS 3-2 over Detroit through some rain delays.  Former Brewer Nelson Cruz hit a solo home run and David Murphy tripled in a run and scored himself to lead the Rangers.  CJ Wilson made it through 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and five walks.  Five Rangers relievers pitched 4.1 shutout innings to preserve the lead.  Justin Verlander gave up all three Rangers runs in four innings.  Ramon Santiago went 3-4 for the Tigers (the only multi-hit game of the night) and scored a run, while Austin Jackson drove in a run and scored one himself.
