Ron Roenicke has to be wondering if every win is going to be this hard.
Yovani Gallardo was the story tonight. Despite striking out just two batters, he shut out the Braves for nine innings, allowing just two hits and a walk. Perhaps most impressively, he only needed 111 pitches to do it, only a few more than he needed to pitch six innings on Thursday.
On offense, Gallardo was also the story. He singled in the third inning and scored on a Ryan Braun single, plating the Brewers' only run.
After that, the Brewers didn't get another runner in scoring position with less than two outs until the eighth, when Nyjer Morgan led off the inning with a triple but was thrown out trying to go home on a Prince Fielder fielder's choice. The Brewers made two outs at home in the inning, as Braun was thrown out trying to go home on a Casey McGehee single.
The win is Ron Roenicke's first with the Brewers, and it's Yovani Gallardo's third career shutout.
