Win Expectancy Graph and Star of the Game Voting
Just when you thought it'd never happen, the Brewers completed a sweep against a team that's not the Pirates.
Randy Wolf was on the tightrope early today, pitching with runners in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings and allowing a run in the third on a Carlos Gonzalez single. He settled down, though, and had a very good outing: He pitched seven innings and allowed just the one run on four hits, walking three and striking out five. He faced the minimum in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and threw 100 pitches in the game.
Kameron Loe and John Axford pitched scoreless innings to close it out. This was Axford's sixth appearance in the last eight days.
All the Brewer runs, meanwhile, scored in one fell swoop in the third. With runners on second and third Ryan Braun hit a liner into the gap in left center and Dexter Fowler made a failed diving attempt to cut it off, allowing both runs to score and Braun to go to third with a standing triple. Braun then went on to score when Fowler's throw back into the infield got away. That was the only Brewer hit until Mark Kotsay doubled in the eighth.
With Randy Wolf pitching, Wil Nieves started behind the plate and went 0-for-3. The Brewers are now averaging 3.5 runs per game on offense when Nieves starts, and 4.1 when he doesn't.
