Win Expectancy GraphIt's said that all good things must come to an end. And alas, this even applies to the Brewers, as their four game winning streak has come to an end.
The game started out pretty well, with Corey giving the Crew an early 2-run lead with his fourth homer of the year in the first inning. But the Nationals fought back, getting one back in the second and four more in the third, courtesy of a Michael Morse grand slam. They added one more in the fourth to give them a 5-2 lead. All five of their runs came against Chris Narveson who lasted only 3.1 innings.
But then it was the Brewers turn to fight back. They trimmed the deficit to 5-3 on Jonathan Lucroy's fifth homer of the year. Rickie Weeks brought them back to within one with a two-run homer in the seventh. The final blow came in the the eighth. With two two on and two out, Jonathan Lucroy hit a little looper that landed just in the line. Brandon Boggs scored all the way from first when the ball from out of National catcher Wilson Ramos's glove, giving the Brewers a 7-6 lead.
John Axford came in to pitch the ninth and was looking as dominant as he has all year, striking out the first three batters. But that last strikeout ball got away from Lucroy, allowing the runner to reach. Axford then allowed a hit and a walk to load the bases. Luckily, he got Morse to fly out to end the game.
The other story of this game was the ejection of Ryan Braun, who slammed his helmet down and was ejected by first base umpire Adrian Johnson. The ejection ended Braun's career best 13-game hitting streak.
