Today In Brewer History: Hart Halts History

On this day one year ago, the Brewers and Mets met in one of the best pitching duels in Miller Park history. Yovani Gallardo pitched nine scoreless innings for the Brewers, allowing eight hits but just one walk while striking out seven. He was matched by Johan Santana, who allowed just five baserunners over eight scoreless innings.

As the two teams entered the bottom of the ninth, the Mets lifted Santana from the game and brought in Pedro Feliciano, who retired Prince Fielder. They then went to the bullpen again and summoned Ryota Igarashi. Ryan Braun welcomed him into the game with a single, and after Casey McGehee popped out Corey Hart hit a home run to deep left to give the Brewers a walkoff victory.

The home run ended a 35 inning scoreless streak for Mets pitchers, who had shut out the Phillies in all three games of a series sweep earlier in the week.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to 1993 Brewer Bill Doran, who turns 53.
