Today In Brewer History: Gomez Shows Off His Speed

On this day one year ago, the Brewers and Cubs played the finale of a three game series at Miller Park. Each team scored in their half of the fourth, fifth and sixth, but the scoring halted there with the two teams tied at four.

After six innings Dave Bush was lifted from the game and the Brewer bullpen was excellent in his place. Kameron Loe, Zach Braddock, Carlos Villanueva and John Axford combined to hold the Cubs scoreless for four innings. Finally, Carlos Gomez walked to lead off the tenth and set up this play:

Sadly, the play was too little too late for the Brewer season. This victory improved their record to 25-35, in fourth place and 9.5 games back. They did, however, finish the season two games ahead of the 75-87 Cubs. That has to count for something, right?
