If you tuned in late tonight, you missed most of the game: Zack Greinke allowed seven runs in the first two innings tonight and was lifted early. The Brewers never recovered and lost 11-2.
Tonight's two inning start was Greinke's shortest since 2007 and tied for the second shortest of his major league career:
Date | Opponent | IP | H | ER | BB | K |
4/16/2007 | Tigers | 0.2 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 1 |
Tonight | Yankees | 2 | 5 | 7 | 3 | 0 |
7/20/2004 | Orioles | 2 | 9 | 8 | 0 | 2 |
4/7/2005 | Tigers | 2.1 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Unfortunately, history doesn't have much good news for us here: Greinke was very good on the start after the 2005 outing listed above, but got roughed up again in the starts following the 2004 and 2007 games.
Also worth noting: In his last start Greinke became just the third Brewer ever to strike out ten opposing batters in back-to-back starts. Tonight, he didn't strike anyone out. Baseball is a funny game sometimes.
