Not-very-much News:
The Pirates' Alex Presley took the night off yesterday due to a thumb contusion. It doesn't sound like anything that will require a trip to the DL, though.
Yesterday's Games:
The Cubs beat the Astros 5-1. The Astros lone run came on a Carlos Lee single, scoring Angel Sanchez. Lee went 3-4 overall as the Astros didn't have an extra base hit in this game. For the Cubs, Marlon Byrd went 2-3 with a walk and Geovany Soto was 2-4. Both players had a solo home run and Soto had two RBI. Only two other Cubs (Kosuke Fukodome, who tripled, and Starlin Castro) had a hit in this game, but two Houston errors helped Chicago out. Wandy Rodriguez gave up just two runs in seven innings and struck out seven hitters while Randy Wells made it six innings and gave up the lone run.
The Reds beat the Braves 11-2. Taking the place of Zack Cozart, Edgar Renteria was 2-4 with two runs and three RBI. Joey votto was 2-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run; Ryan Hanigan was 2-4 with a run; and Brandon Phillips went 3-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The Reds didn't hit a home run in this game. Homer Bailey gave up two runs in six innings and struck out three.
The Cardinals beat the Pirates 9-1. Chase D'Arnaud and Matt Diaz each had a couple hits for Pittsburgh, but the rest of their offense and Kevin Correia's performance (4.2 IP, 7 ER) left the team high and dry. Jaime Garcia went 7.1 innings for St. Louis and only gave up one run. Lance Berkman hit a three run homerun, and Yadier Molina was 2-4 with a solo shot.
The Brewers lost to the Giants, 4-2. Here is our recap.
