On this day a year ago, we all learned a thing or two about holding our breath.
Yovani Gallardo started for the Brewers in a holiday matinee at Busch Stadium in St. Louis but didn't last long, allowing six runs (only one earned) on five hits over 2.2 innings. He left the start early with an oblique strain. Carlos Villanueva pitched 3.1 hitless innings in relief but the damage was already done: The Cardinals won the game 7-1. Corey Hart scored the Brewers' only run in the game with a solo home run, extending his hitting streak to 19 games.
Alcides Escobar also had one of his worst days as a Brewer on this day: He went 0-for-3 with a pair of double plays at the plate and committed two errors on back-to-back plays in the Cardinals' five run third.
Gallardo, meanwhile, missed 17 days with the oblique strain before returning to action on June 22.
