Are you watching the scoreboard yet?
With the Prognostikeggers playoffs coming up, there's not much time left to catch up. Here's the key date: August 28th. That is the last day of the regular season. After that, the final competition begins. The top sixteen advance to the playoffs, and the fight for the championship hits full intensity.
Some more details on the playoffs. First of all, the schedule:
Round of 16: August 29 - September 4 (6 games)
Quarterfinals: September 5 - September 11 (7 games)
Semifinals: September 12 - September 18 (5 games)
Finals: September 19 - September 28 (9 games)
There is an imbalance in the schedule for games, but I think it provides a unique challenge. Can you have success in a short time period, and can you have success over an extended period?
In terms of how the matchups will work, here's what will happen. In the first three rounds, there will be matchups of four people. The initial seeding will work as follows:
Round of 16
Match #1 - Overall #1 vs. Overall #8 vs. Overall #9 vs. Overall #16
Match #2 - Overall #4 vs. Overall #5 vs. Overall #12 vs. Overall #13
Match #3 - Overall #2 vs. Overall #7 vs. Overall #10 vs. Overall #15
Match #4 - Overall #3 vs. Overall #6 vs. Overall #11 vs. Overall #14
Quarterfinals
Match #5 - 1st in Match #1 vs. 2nd in Match #1 vs. 1st in Match #2 vs. 2nd in Match #2
Match #6 - 1st in Match #3 vs. 2nd in Match #3 vs. 1st in Match #4 vs. 2nd in Match #4
Semifinals
Match #7 - 1st in Match #5 vs. 2nd in Match #5 vs. 1st in Match #6 vs. 2nd in Match #6
Finals
Match #8 - 1st in Match #7 vs. 2nd in Match #7
I think this will work better than head-to-head matchups because you're not necessarily doomed by a bad week in the first three rounds. I feel like, in a single week, the luck factor can play too much into it. This should help keep that down. If you don't win the match in the first three rounds, you can still advance with a second place finish.
Starting with this week's standings, you will see blue highlighting in the overall standings. That is the projected playoffs as of today. You will notice that there was a tie for sixteenth place in these standings. If there is a tie at the end of the season, the tiebreaker goes to the person who has performed better over the last three weeks.
There's still a lot to fight for before then. Figure out what you have to do to get back in to it, and then fight for your life in this competition.
Extra Prediction for the Series: The racing sausages return. Here's a question I have in regards to the race. Do sausage sales increase in the inning following the sausage race? I wonder if there is some subliminal messaging going on there.
