Just like yesterday, the Brewers took the early lead. This time, they did it with a Casey McGehee solo homer in the fourth inning and a sixth inning Prince Fielder RBI single that scored Ryan Braun after he stole second following a single.
Armed with a 2-0 lead and Yovani Gallardo pitching fantastically (he had given up just three hits through six innnings, with no walks), the Brewers and Gallardo blew the lead in the seventh, just like yesterday. Also like yesterday, it was Lucas Duda hitting a two run homer to spoil the Brewers fun.
Fortunately, just like yesterday the Brewers would still win the game after scoring two runs in the eighth inning and two runs in the ninth. Gallardo finished with a line of 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 K, 6 H, and 1 BB. Not a bad day of work at all. K-Rod and LaTroy Hawkins each followed by pitching a clean inning to close out the victory.
Ryan Braun was the offensive star, going 3-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI to go along with two stolen bases.
By the way, this was the eighth straight series victory for the Brewers, including five sweeps. They haven't lost a series since July 22-24 when they played in San Francisco. They'll look to continue the streak against the Pirates, starting with a double header in Pittsburgh tomorrow.
