RBI are a pretty terrible statistic to use to measure a player's value: They're largely based on opportunity and they're occasionally handed out on plays like one we saw today, when Prince Fielder grounded into what should have been a double play but the ball was bobbled and a run scored.
With that said, Fielder drove in two runs today to bring himself to 98 this season, top in the NL. The Brewers played their 128th game today, and if Fielder drives in two more runs tomorrow it'll only be the third time in franchise history a player has driven in 100 runs in the team's first 130 games. Here are the previous occurrences:
Player | Season | Games to 100 RBI | Final Total |
Cecil Cooper | 1983 | 112 | 126 |
Prince Fielder | 2009 | 113 | 141 |
