Around the NL Central: September 24 Edition

News:

The Reds have signed GM Walt Jocketty to a three year contract extension

Matt Holliday was back in the lineup for the Cardinals yesterday.  He had missed about a week with a hand injury.

Aramis Ramirez was out of the lineup for the Cubs yesterday due to a quad injury.  Still, the Cubs refuse to shut him down for the rest of the year.

Yesterday's Games:

The Pirates beat the Reds 4-3.  With Pittsburgh up 3-2 going into the ninth, the Reds tied the game with an RBI HBP.  Unfortunately for Cincy, Ryan Ludwick would follow that up with an RBI single, walking the Pirates off.

The Astros beat the Rockies 11-2.  Carlos Lee had four RBI, JD Martinez went 3-5, and Angel Sanchez scored three runs and drove in two more.  And Brett Myers gave up just one run in six innings while striking out six.

The Cubs beat the Cardinals 5-1Alfonso Soriano hit a three run homer to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead in the eighth inning!  The Cubs tacked on another in the ninth!  Carlos Marmol shut down the Cardinals offense in the ninth!  The Cardinals playoff hopes are swirling the drain!

The Brewers clinched the NL Central with the St. Louis loss and the Brewers 4-1 win over the Marlins!

The Cubs and Rodrigo Lopez (6-6, 4.71) look to further damage the Cardinals' and Kyle Lohse's (14-8, 3.47) playoff hopes.

Travis Wood (6-5, 4.62) and the Reds take on Brad Lincoln (1-3, 4.85) and the Pirates.

J.A. Happ (6-15, 5.48) gets the start for the Astros as they play the Rockies and Jason Hammel (7-13, 4.85).

Zack Greinke (15-6, 3.75) is on the mound for the NL Central Champion Brewers as they face the Marlins and Alex Sanabia (0-0, 1.29).
