Prognostikeggers Playoffs - Finals: Pirates @ Brewers

(If you're looking for an explanation of Prognostikeggers, check out the Full Rules for Prognostikeggers.)

This is it.  It's the last series of the Prognostikeggers playoffs.

Looking at each of the matches, there is still plenty to be decided.  In the championship match, jimf and icecreamman are tied at 11 entering the final series.  The situation in the 3rd place match is the same, with Dulzy and jarlbartar tied at 11 as well.  Looking at the fifth place match, a gap has opened up and proachinf has taken a six point lead over ObiBraunKenobi.  There is also a gap in the seventh place match, as MrLeam has a five point lead over thefreewheelin76.  The ninth place match shows ddloml with a slight one-point lead over badgerman59.  On the eleventh place match, MKEtotheATX has a two point lead over brewerspug.  In the last two matches, there isn't much activity, as philc78 leads Officer Jim Lahey in the thirteenth place matchjust due to the fact that he has made some predictions.  It's the same in the fifteenth place match, as texwestern has a good lead, but toki47 has been inactive as well.  Finally, in the consolation match, Kid19 has a three-point lead for the title, but dikapalooza and Bush League All Star are still in striking distance.

While the Prognostikeggers playoffs will conclude in a few days, a new challenge will start up for the MLB playoffs.  This will be a completely new challenge, no scoring from the regular season will carry over.  Each series will be independent from the rest, and with the challenge of not knowing exactly when a series will end, it could provide an interesting dynamic.

There will also be some changes to the competition, some just for the playoffs, while others will carry over into next season (assuming that Prognostikeggers returns).  I outlined some of these several weeks ago in plans for next season, but here are the basic changes.

  • The basic idea behind the changes is to make it so points are distributed on a more equal basis.  For example, a correct error prediction won't be worth the same as a correct runs prediction, which would be harder to predict.  Total points awarded will go up.
  • Attendance predictions are going to be modified just for the MLB playoffs this year and will return to a similar system next season.  Because predicting attendance within any number other than an incredibly close amount would be too easy, it's going to go to a percentage based system instead.  The 20% of predictions that are closest to the actual attendance will get two points each.  Note that I may drop this prediction after the NLDS if the Brewers advance and I find that this isn't working well.  I don't know how this will work with the most possible tickets being sold for each game.
  • Line score predictions will be done for both teams.  The opponent line scores will be for just the playoffs, those won't be a regular prediction in the regular season.  Runs and hits are worth two points, and errors are worth one point.  Also, a perfect line score prediction will yield an extra two points.
  • MVP predictions will be worth two points.
  • Sausage race predictions will be worth two points, and will be a separate extra prediction for home series.
  • Extra predictions will also be back, though they may be game-specific, series-specific, or partial series-specific.  I don't know which it will be yet.  Points will be assigned per extra prediction.
  • Bonus predictions will remain on the tier system, but the tiers are changing.  30% or less will be worth one point, 20% or less at two points, 10% or less at three points, and a special 1% or less tier worth five points.

That's how it is going to work out.  Full rules and everything else will be announced before the first playoff series.  The reason I'm saying this all now is because I'm going to give everyone a chance to make suggestions.  I may not use them, but you'll have a chance to say what you think.
