Prognostikeggers Playoffs - Quarterfinals: Brewers @ Cardinals

Jonathan Lucroy knows what to do after the big hit. Savor the moment, then get right back down to business. The players remaining in the Prognostikeggers playoffs would do well to remember this.
Jonathan Lucroy knows what to do after the big hit. Savor the moment, then get right back down to business. The players remaining in the Prognostikeggers playoffs would do well to remember this.

(If you're looking for an explanation of Prognostikeggers, check out the Full Rules for Prognostikeggers.)

The first week of the playoffs is done, and it was an interesting first week.  The top four seeds survived to make the quarterfinals.  The next four seeds did not, and four double-digit seeds took their place.  Here's how the four matches occurred.

Match #1
We almost saw the #1 seed bow out of the playoffs, but Dulzy was not going without a fight.  While proachinf proved he belonged in the playoffs with a nice week, Dulzy and badgerman59 entered the final day of the series down two points to brewerspug for the second spot.  Badgerman59 had a nice final push but came up just short.  Dulzy and brewerspug matched each others predictions on the MVP and bonus, but it was the extra prediction that saved Dulzy.  With an exact pick on the longest HR distance in Sunday's game, not only did Dulzy pull into a tie for second place, but the points from the extra prediction were the points needed to win the tiebreaker and advance to the quarterfinals.  Dulzy and proachinf survive to play in the quarterfinals, and badgerman59 and brewerspug will fight in the ninth place bracket.

Match #2
If there's a blowout possible for the Prognostikeggers playoffs, this game just showed it.  MrLeam and jarlbartar took leads early on texwestern and toki47, and never looked back.  In fact, texwestern and toki47 did not even make predictions for the last two games.  There was no doubt on the final for this match, as MrLeam and jarlbartar head to the quarterfinals, sending texwestern and toki47 to the ninth place bracket.

Match #3
This ended up being the closest of all of the first round matches.  Officer Jim Lahey and jimf had a lead heading into the weekend, and put up some good numbers to build scores that would have won some of the other matches.  While philc78 fell behind, thefreewheelin76 was not about to fall out that easily.  A six point series, including three points on the final day, forced a three-way tie for the two spots to advance.  The first spot was claimed by jimf, who was the only one of the three to make a correct bonus prediction in the match.  The other spot went to thefreewheelin76 with his two correct extra predictions, taking the second tiebreaker.  Officer Jim Lahey ended up falling short and heads to the ninth place bracket.

Match #4
After taking leads early in the week, icecreamman and ObiBraunKenobi went into the weekend series just needing to stay ahead of MKEtotheATX and ddloml.  That's exactly what they did, holding on to advance to the semifinals.  MKEtotheATX fought hard over the last few days but couldn't make up the points, and ddloml just picked a bad time to have a bad week.  Both will try their luck in the ninth place bracket.

Consolation Match
One week in to the consolation match, and there's a fight going on for that title.  Bush League All Star took the early lead, but dikapalooza and Kid19 are right behind.  Looks like we're going to see a good fight for the winner of that one.

With all of that done, the quarterfinals are set to begin.  Eight players remain in the hunt for the championship.  Here are the matches:

Match #5: #1 Dulzy vs. #4 MrLeam vs. #13 jarlbartar vs. #16 proachinf

Match #6: #2 icecreamman vs. #3 thefreewheelin76 vs. #10 ObiBraunKenobi vs. #14 jimf

Who will make it to the semifinals?  As for the eight who lost, there's still something to fight for.  The consolation bracket starts today, and there is still final positioning on the line.

Extra Prediction for the Series:  It's time for a game time prediction.  Predict the official game time for each game in the series.  If you are within five minutes of the actual game time, you will get one point.  If you hit it exactly, you will get two points.  Note that I am talking about the length of the game, not when it starts.  Weather delays do not count for an official game time.  (For example, a game starting at 3:15 PM and ending at 5:50 PM would have a game time of 2 hours and 35 minutes.)
