On this day in 1983 Brandon Boggs was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to college at Georgia Tech and the Rangers selected him in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2004 draft. He had the best season of his career in the minors in 2007 (hitting .262/.380/.507 between high-A and AA as a 24 year old) and earned a shot as a full time major leaguer in 2008, appearing in 101 games for Texas.
Boggs didn't hit much in 2008 and hasn't seen any extended playing time in the majors since. He appeared in a combined 13 games in 2009-10 for the Rangers, then signed with the Brewers as a minor league free agent and appeared in 16 more in 2011. This winter he signed another minor league free agent deal, this time with the Pirates.
Despite having spent just a brief period of time in Milwaukee, Boggs does hold one small claim to fame: He's the only player in franchise history born on January 9.
Thanks to the B-Ref Play Index for reminding me that Boggs turns 29 today.
