I've never understood why, but from time I hear from someone who thinks the Brewers are candidates to sign Josh Hamilton, Rangers slugger and the 2010 AL MVP. Hamilton will be a free agent shortly after the World Series, and figures to be one of the best offensive players looking for a new home this winter.
I've long said that it doesn't make sense for the Brewers to pursue Hamilton, and it appears Las Vegas agrees with me. Via Bovada, here are the ten teams most likely to sign Hamilton this winter:
Team | Odds |
Giants | 3/1 |
Braves | 5/1 |
Rangers | 5/1 |
Phillies | 7/1 |
Yankees | 9/1 |
Cubs | 9/1 |
Red Sox | 9/1 |
Pirates | 10/1 |
Blue Jays | 10/1 |
Dodgers | 15/1 |
I think some of these teams are more or less likely than the odds listed above to sign Hamilton for a variety of reasons, but I tend to agree with their implied analysis that the Brewers have a less than 1-in-15 chance of winning this race.
