On this day in 1980 Jose Veras was born in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The Rays signed him as a 17-year-old amateur free agent in 1998, but it was eight years before Veras reached the majors as a member of the 2006 Yankees.
Veras was a Yankee from 2006-2009 but has played for four franchises since: He finished 2009 as an Indian, spent 2010 with the Marlins and was a 2011 Pirate before coming to the Brewers in a trade that sent Casey McGehee to Pittsburgh.
As a Brewer this season Veras set a career high by striking out 10.6 batters per nine innings, but also by walking 5.4. His 3.63 ERA was his best since 2008, but there's still a strong chance he'll be non-tendered this winter.
Thanks to the B-Ref Play Index for informing me that Veras turns 32 today. With help from Brewerfan.net we'd also like to wish a happy birthday to 2012 Brevard County Manatee Parker Berberet, who turns 23.
Today is also the 30th anniversary of Game 7 of the 1982 World Series. We covered that event in this space last year.
