Fun Facts: NLCS Game 7

The NLCS ends TONIGHT!

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants have played a combined 347 games this season, but now their World Series dreams rest on the outcome of a single contest tonight.

At 7 pm in San Francisco the Giants, representing the NL's last chance to keep the Cardinals out of the World Series, will play a winner-take-all Game 7 against St. Louis. Matt Cain (2.79 ERA, 3.40 FIP regular season, 4.67 ERA, 6.04 FIP postseason) will face Kyle Lohse (2.86 ERA, 3.51 FIP regular season, 1.96 ERA, 4.24 FIP postseason).

Fun facts:

  • Kyle Lohse is going to get a lot of money this winter from someone capable of ignoring the fact that he's 34, having a career year and the 230+ innings he's pitched this season are easily a career high. His previous high was 206, set in 2003.
  • Matt Cain, meanwhile, has pitched 217.2 or more innings in each of the last five seasons, including 236.2 this season.
  • Marco Scutaro's eleven hits are easily the most of any player in either LCS series. Pablo Sandoval is second with eight, and Yadier Molina is the only Cardinal with seven.
  • The last three times the NLCS has reached a decisive Game 7 are 2012, 2006 and 2004. The Cardinals won the series in both 2004 and 2006.

Tonight's game will be on Fox.
