Here's one last reminder that if you're in or near the Milwaukee area you should come join us at the Brew Crew Ball World Series Meetup at The Tracks Tavern & Grill, 1020 E. Locust St on Milwaukee's East Side. We'll be there throughout the game and maybe after, so stop in and say hello.
For those of you who aren't joining us, though, you're welcome to hang out here as the Tigers travel to San Francisco to face the Giants in Game 1 of the 2012 World Series. 2002 AL Cy Young Award winner Barry Zito (4.15 ERA, 4.49 FIP regular season, 1.74 ERA, 3.87 FIP postseason) will take on 2011 AL Cy Young Award Winner and MVP Justin Verlander (2.64 ERA, 2.94 FIP regular season, 0.74 ERA, 2.72 FIP postseason).
Fun Facts:
- Since 2006 Justin Verlander leads all major league pitchers in wins (124), is second in strikeouts (1447, trailing only CC Sabathia) and is third with 1542.1 innings pitched (not counting 66.1 postseason innings).
- Verlander already has three wins this postseason. Only 16 pitchers have ever had four, and just two (Randy Johnson in 2001 and Francisco Rodriguez in 2002) have had five.
- Barry Zito, widely seen as an expensive disappointment, has thrown just over 1000 innings as a Giant. Only eleven pitchers have ever thrown 1000 innings as a Brewer. Yovani Gallardo (916.1) and Manny Parra (513) are the only active Brewers with more than 400.
- Marco Scutaro has 17 hits this postseason, matching the 17 Ryan Braun had in 2011 and Paul Molitor had in 1982. The MLB record for hits in a postseason is 25, last set by David Freese last year.
Tonight's game is on Fox.
