Two Bay Area teams have their backs to the wall in our pair of playoff matchups tonight.
First at 4:30 the Reds (leading series 2-0) will play their first home playoff game and look to eliminate the Giants. Homer Bailey (3.68 ERA, 3.97 FIP) will take the mound for the Reds against Ryan Vogelsong (3.37 ERA, 3.70 FIP).
Fun fact: The Giants have not been swept in any of their last eight playoff series, dating back to the 1997 NLDS. The Reds, meanwhile, have swept their opponent in each of their last two series wins (the 1995 NLDS and 1990 World Series).
Once that game wraps up our attention will shift to Oakland where the A's play their first home playoff game since 2006 and look to avoid elimination against the Tigers (who lead the series 2-0). Brett Anderson (2.57 ERA, 2.72 FIP) will take the mound in his first start since September 19 and face Anibal Sanchez (3.86 ERA, 3.52 FIP).
Fun fact: The A's have lost seven of their last eight playoff series since winning the 1989 World Series, with the only exception being the 2006 ALDS. All three Oakland starting pitchers in this series have been 25 or younger.
Both games will be on TBS, with Brian Anderson calling the Reds/Giants game.
