Brewers Outright Nyjer Morgan To Nashville

If things continue at this pace the Brewers are going to make all of their offseason news in November and have nothing left to do in December/January.

Moments ago Brewer Media Relations Director Mike Vassallo tweeted that the team has outrighted Nyjer Morgan to AAA Nashville, effectively ending his Brewer tenure. Morgan would have been arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, but his diminished role this season made him a pretty notable candidate to be non-tendered. MLB Trade Rumors predicted he'd receive around $2.6 million in arbitration for 2013.

Like Jose Veras, Morgan now goes on waivers and could be claimed by another team. Any team that claims him will have the right to offer him arbitration and keep him for 2013 and 2014, which would be his final arb season. Assuming he clears waivers he'll become a free agent.

Morgan will, of course, always be remembered in Milwaukee for his breakout 2011 season, where he hit .304/.357/.421 and drove in the game-winning run in the Brewers' walkoff win over the Diamondbacks in Game 5 of the NLDS. He only had 289 at bats in 2012, though, hitting .239/.302/.308. In September it was pretty clear that Logan Schafer had passed him on the depth chart.

Morgan is 32 and will likely get another opportunity to play somewhere next season, but will almost certainly get less than the $2.6 million the Brewers were projected to give him if they had tendered him a contract.

In other news, Jose Veras has cleared waivers, rejected his outright assignment and is now a free agent.
