Jeff Cirillo Among Former Brewers On 2013 Hall Of Fame Ballot

The 2013 Hall of Fame ballot is out and features 37 players, including longtime candidates Jack Morris, Don Mattingly and Alan Trammell and a host of interesting newcomers, including Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Kenny Lofton, Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza and Sammy Sosa.

You have to look a ways down the list of newcomers, though, before you find the first former Brewers. Here are the players on the ballot with Milwaukee ties:

Jeff Cirillo

Easily the longest-tenured of the former Brewers on the ballot is Cirillo, who played eight of his 14 major league seasons and made one of his two All Star appearances in Milwaukee. He's seventh on the Brewer all time list with 217 doubles, and his .307 batting average is the second best ever for a Brewer with more than 3000 plate appearances.

Royce Clayton

Clayton played 17 major league seasons as a member of eleven teams, including the 2003 Brewers. He hit just .228/.301/.333 that season but did manage to crack eleven home runs.

Clayton actually has more career hits (1904) than Mark McGwire (1626).

Julio Franco

Franco's 23-year major league career included a brief stop in Milwaukee, where he appeared in 42 games and hit .241/.373/.348 in 1997. Franco was a three-time All Star, five-time Silver Slugger and the 1991 AL batting champion. His 9731 career plate appearances are the 98th most in major league history.

Franco is probably the Brewers' best bet to extend a Hall of Fame streak: They've had at least one alum receive a vote for the Hall every year since 1994.

The Hall of Fame voting results will be announced on January 9.
