Brewers Use Six-Run Fourth Inning to Beat Cubs 10-2

WP: Randy Wolf (2-0)
LP: Travis Wood (1-1)

HR: None

The Brewers bats came alive in a big way today. After Randy Wells left for the day, the Brewers hit Travis Wood hard. In a six-run fourth inning, George Kottaras (3-run RBI double), Cesar Izturis (2-run RBI double), and Randy Wolf (RBI single) each recorded RBIs as the Brewers broke the game open. Kottaras would record two more RBIs on a double in the fifth for a five-RBI day. Brooks Conrad and Mat Gamel also contributed to the offense with RBIs today.

Randy Wolf finally became hittable today. In his four innings of work, he allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four. The bullpen for today (Josh Butler, Jose Veras, Jed Bradley, Santo Manzanillo, Daniel Meadows) then locked the Cubs down, holding them to one hit and two walks over the final five innings.

George Kottaras was the hero of the day with a two-hit, five RBI performance. Alex Gonzalez also had a nice day with three hits and a walk. Rickie Weeks pitched in as well with a hit, a walk, and two runs scored. Randy Wolf also had a nice contribution to the offense today with two hits.

In the running department, the Brewers had two more stolen bases today. RIckie Weeks picked up his first of the spring, and Mat Gamel recorded his third.

The Brewers are back in action tomorrow in Maryvale against the Padres.
