I got an email from Bovada yesterday promoting several proposition bets for the 2012 MLB season. From a Brewer perspective, here's the line I found most interesting:
Odds to win the 2012 NL MVP:
Player | Odds |
Joey Votto | 7/1 |
Ryan Braun | 8/1 |
Matt Kemp | 9/1 |
Justin Upton | 10/1 |
Giancarlo Stanton | 10/1 |
Rickie Weeks (tied for 26th most likely at 40/1) and Aramis Ramirez (tied for 30th most likely at 50/1) are also listed.
As I mentioned above I find this line interesting, but even if I were a betting man I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Braun may shed his spring training struggles and have a phenomenal year, but even if he does there are likely voters who will leave him off or lower his position on their MVP ballots because of the events of this offseason. It'd be silly to do so, of course, but the BBWAA has done nothing to prevent its members from using their ballot to make silly, unprovable or inaccurate moral arguments before and likely won't do it this year either.
There are more Brewer-relevant betting lines after the jump.
