A Cactus League Loss Sails Off Into The Distance As Royals Outhomer Brewers, Win 9-7

W: Bruce Chen (1-1)
L: Yovani Gallardo (1-2)
S: Louis Coleman (1)

HR: Mat Gamel (4), Alex Gonzalez (3), Yuniesky Betancourt (2), Eric Hosmer 2 (4), Mike Moustakas (1), Max Ramirez (4)

Hopefully the Brewers will pitch to Royals hitters a little differently when these two teams meet again in June.

The Brewers connected for a pair of home runs today (Mat Gamel's fourth and Alex Gonzalez's third of the spring), but allowed five to the Royals. Yovani Gallardo was hit all over the ballpark today, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings, walking one and striking out six. Five of the six hits he allowed went for extra bases, including two homers. Minor leaguer Casey Medlen pitched a scoreless ninth and was the only Brewer pitcher not to allow a home run.

The Brewer batters, meanwhile, managed seven hits against Bruce Chen but only plated three runs. Caleb Gindl and Jonathan Lucroy both had multiple hits in the game, although Lucroy also erased himself from the bases once by getting caught stealing. The Crew closed the gap a bit by scoring three runs on five singles in the eighth and one more in the ninth, but couldn't come all the way back.

The Brewer homestand continues tomorrow when they host the Diamondbacks at 3:05. Zack Greinke gets the ball for the Brewers, and will face Wade Miley.
