John Axford didn't have the best day. Brought in to get a little work in the eighth inning of the Brewers 7-4 loss to the Braves, Axford allowed two runs on two walks and a hit while securing just one out. But that one out is very interesting, as it was a strike out. That continues an interesting streak for Axford as his first eight outs of the season have now all been via strikeout.
After tonight, along with those eight strikeouts, Axford has allowed five walks. Just five balls have been put into play against Axford, with three of them being hits and two resulting in an error.
Here are Axford's lines from his first four games:
Date | Opp. | Innings | Runs | Earned Runs |
Hits | Walks | Strikeouts |
April 8 | Cardinals | 0.2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 |
April 9 | Cubs | 0.2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 2 |
April 11 | Cubs | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3 |
April 15 | Braves | 0.1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 |
Axford now has a 10.13 ERA to start the season. He'll get a ground out or fly out at some point this season. I think.
